I have been searching for a way to increase the horsepower on my 1996 Sea Doo XP and 95 SPI. Can you make some suggestions? I have seen some bolt on applications in this Tech section in the past. Please help, starving for more power. Jack Hi Jack,
If the Seadoos you speak of are "stock", a power increase should be easy.. Free-Flow flame arresters, ect. are the quickest performance mods you can make. Its also important to remember the performance of the jet pump, especially as personal watercraft get a little older. The impeller clearance is VERY important to the performance as well as the condition of the seadoo impeller itself. Only after proper inspection and service can you be assured the Sea Doo jet pump is up to spec. Tech Talk

I'm wondering if you can help me with a problem i'm having with my 97 seadoo SPX. Even after my Sea-Doo has run for a while, If i try to take off from and idle speed and "floor it" it will hesitate before it actually takes off. Sometimes if I dont let off a little bit it will cut out. I was wondering if the carbs were running lean? I was also thinking of installing a primer kit to help it start. If I do this, How do I adjust the carbs> Also, can I lower the pop off pressure to 15psi, and do I do that by cutting one coil from spring at a time? kyle Kyle, It sounds like the pop off pressure in carburetor is to high or carb is dirty and you may be running to lean. Lower th pop-off pressure to 20psi by cutting one spring coil at a time. Installing a primer kit is a good idea and not only will help with starting, it will give better performance when butterfly's are removed. I would recommend richen the carb by turning the richen screw 1/4 turns out (counter clockwise). You might as well add some aftermarket air filters if you are to go this rout.
Tech Talk I recently moved from Blyth, California to Lake Tahoe, Nevada and I am enjoying the really cool ride spots in my new area. My friend and I both have Yamaha GP800's, but his is a lot faster than mine. Both our boats are totally stock. My friend says mine is a California model, something about emissions or something, what gives? Jerry Jerry, Haven't seen any difference in a California model in regards to performance. But, If your friend bought his Jet ski in Tahoe his might have came with a high altitude impeller which would have better performance.
Tech Talk When working on my Waveblaster latley, I noticed the inside of the hull has quite a bit of grease and dirt in it. What is the best think to use to clean it out? JP Hi JP, a good cleaning/ degreasing agent such as PJ1's Spray & Wash degreaser will work just fine. Pull your drain plugs, and elevate the front of your Jet ski or boat so the bilge water will run out the back, then liberally spray the degreasing agent on the engine and hull,. After letting the solution work for a few minutes, rinse it off with water to clean hull thoroughly.
