9/21/2005 Sea-Doo's Redesigned GTI: A Budget-Friendly Watercraft with Powerful 4-Tec EngineRead NowBRP (Bombardier Recreational Products) has recently redesigned the Sea-Doo GTI to incorporate BRP's 1503 series 4-Tec engine. The revamped GTI now includes an all-new hull and has been transformed into a completely new model that adheres to the latest EPA standards. The 4-Tec engine is a SOHC three-cylinder engine with four valves per cylinder and multi-port fuel injection that provides better control of emissions and fuel economy. The GTI model's 1494cc engine is tuned for torque and low-end power delivery, providing 130 peak horsepower. The GTI's new fiberglass composite hull is a modified 18.5-degree semi-V hull, unlike the deeper 22.5-degree design of the larger GTX. The hull design's primary goals were to increase the fun factor and ease of use.
The new GTI is slightly longer and wider than its predecessor, with a dry weight of 732 pounds. Sea-Doo's closed loop cooling system has been incorporated into the new model, eliminating the need to flush the motor after use. The base GTI and the SE both come equipped with reverse, but the SE model has additional features such as a speedometer, adjustable mirrors, footwell mats, a deck pad, and a fold-down reboarding step. Sea-Doo's focus for 2006 was on the mid-range price point, and the rest of its new line, including the GTX, GTX SE, GTX Limited, RXT, RXP, Wake, and 3D, remain largely unchanged. The 3D now offers a Direct Injection version of the twin-cylinder two-stroke 782cc engine, increasing its output to 130 horses. In the BRP jet boat line, Mercury components have been eliminated for 2006, and all Sea-Doo jet boats now feature varying combinations of the 155-hp and 185-hp four-stroke 4-Tec engines. However, two even more powerful models are available. The Wake, a tower-equipped 20-foot boat, is aimed at action sports enthusiasts and anyone with a preference for power. It offers a 310-horse model and an intercooled supercharged version with a whopping 430-hp output. Both versions of the Wake boast a range of standard features, including wakeboard racks, remote control ballast systems, Clarion AM/FM CD stereo systems with P.A., and PerfectPass speed control with eight pre-sets.
