After months of rumors, Hydrospace, based in Austria, has introduced the world's first 4-stroke stand-up personal watercraft, putting an end to internet speculation. The S4 and turbocharged S4 High Output, both powered by an 803cc, two-cylinder engine, are designed to excel on the racecourse, with 100 and 163 horsepower, respectively. The company will manufacture 200 units to meet IJSBA Homologation requirements, with the crafts debuting in May 2005 at the IJSBA Corona Extra Euro Tour in Spain. Hydrospace aims to support the IJSBA and promote the sport of watercraft racing worldwide. The company's team, including Chris MacClugage, Chris Hagest, Rok Florjancic, and Nico Lasselsberger, will campaign the crafts in the European Championships and Alpe Adria Cup before debuting in the US at the IJSBA World Finals. The carbon and Texalium laminate used in construction, along with fiberglass-reinforced plastic, is high-tech. The S4 will retail for approximately $12,191, while the S4 HO will sell for roughly $18,611, not including shipping. The US release is expected in mid-summer.
