How Sea-Doo's RXT-X Sets a New Standard for High-Performance PWCs

​When it comes to personal watercraft, Sea-Doo never settles for second place. The 2010 RXT-X is a prime example, boasting 260 horsepower that rivals Kawasaki's Ultra 260X for the title of "biggest and baddest" PWC on the market. But what sets the RXT-X apart is not just its speed, but also its exceptional stopping power.

The RXT-X's 1,494 cc supercharged/intercooled triple engine provides an arm-wrenching blast of acceleration that can propel the boat to 67 mph. Interestingly, the Coast Guard's handshake agreement with PWC manufacturers is to limit speeds to 65 mph with a 2 mph leeway. However, the RXT-X's "sport" mode enables users to tap into the boat's full potential, thanks to the adoption of electronic throttle and two individual acceleration curves.

Last year's RXT model introduced a stepped hull design and full suspension, but the RXT-X wisely opts for the hull design while leaving out the costly suspension. This makes the boat lighter and more agile, with improved handling in corners and greater stability in rough waters. The new handlebar design, adjustable for width and grip angle, enhances the driver's feeling of control. Electronic trim adjusts the craft's attitude on the fly, and Sea-Doo's "intelligent" brake and reverse technology allows for faster, more controlled stops.
